Sanmyuu’s first member voting forces 2 girls to leave the group

J-MUSIC NEWS 20120507_sanmyuu_006
In March, we reported that entertainment company Sun Music, known for many popular idols such as Matsuda Seiko,
is going to produce their first ever idol group in their 44-year-long
history. On May 6th, the final candidates held their first member
voting, which narrowed the group down from 18 to 16 girls.

This idol training project is called ‘Sanmyuu‘ and started through the popular online streaming site ‘Nico Nico Douga
in November, 2011, where people were able to witness 1,000 girls
training and later auditioning for the group. After the auditions, the
group was narrowed down to 18 finalists with an average age of 15, who
have since been going through various dancing, singing, and special
survival lessons. Until mid-June, they are expected to have shrunk down
to around half the number of members.

On the 6th, it was time to say farewell to the first two of the 18
girls. However, it wasn’t the online viewers or the company that decided
who is advancing to the final 16, it was the girls themselves. Each of
the girls had to write down the names of the 16 girls they’d like to
stay in the group on a sheet of paper and the two girls with the lowest
number of votes were forced to leave the group.

It’s obviously a pretty cruel method for the young girls to decide
the fate of their fellow members by themselves and of course the voting
already started with a flood of tears before the girls even had the
chance to promote themselves for the last time. What’s even more harsh
is the fact that the girls had just achieved their first live
performance together as a group of 18 one day before the voting, which
must have caused quite a change of emotions for all of the girls.

In the end it was Watanabe Airi (14) with 10 votes and Kato Yuna (15) with 12 votes who came in last and were forced to leave the group.

Afterwards, Kinoshita Ayana (15) commented, “I’d
like those of us who are still here to always think of those who
dropped out and really appreciate the fact that they are still left in
the group.
” The Japanese-American Goto Tsubasa Jenni (15) added, “I definitely want to debut with this group and this voting has once again strengthened this feeling.

The next voting is going to take place at the end of this months, but
this time the viewers on ‘Nico Nico Douga’ will be able to pick who is
going to stay and who are the two girls who are going to leave the
group.

Listen to a preview of Mizuki Nana’s new song, “METRO BAROQUE”

J-MUSIC NEWS 20120519_mizuki_bloodc

A preview for Mizuki Nana’s upcoming song “METRO BAROQUE” was recently revealed in a long-awaited trailer for the upcoming anime film, “BLOOD-C The Last Dark“.

The “BLOOD” series has drawn critical acclaim from famous Hollywood directors such as James Cameron and Quentin Tarantino, showing its huge impact around the world. The “BLOOD-C” anime series was born out of a collaboration between the Production I.G (who is known for such hits as “GHOST IN THE SHELL“, “PATLABOR“, and “Momo e no Tegami“) and the manga group CLAMP, who consistently puts out popular titles.

Mizuki Nana – who voices the main character, Kisaragi Saya – wrote
“METRO BAROQUE” expressly for the movie, , and the title “METRO BAROQUE”
was inspired by the plot of the movie version, since the decisive
battle is set in Tokyo (metro) and ‘baroque’ means ‘warped pearl’ (in
reference to Saya). “METRO BAROQUE” is said to show off the singer’s
powerful vocals.

The movie preview features a sneak peek at Saya’s action shots, and
highlights Production I.G’s high quality video work. In the preview,
Saya faces off with her long-time enemy Nanahara Fumito and completely
loses her cool, which Mizuki represents with her “beastly voice”.

“METRO BAROQUE” will be included on Mizuki Nana’s upcoming singleTIME SPACE EP“,
which will be released on June 6th. The movie “BLOOD-C The Movie The
Last Dark” will finally be unveiled in full beginning on June 2nd.

Nogizaka46 holds handshake event + celebrates a member’s birthday in Nagoya

J-MUSIC NEWS 20120519_nogizaka27-600x398

On May 19th, Nogizaka46 held an event in Aichi, Nagoya at Ai-Chikyuu Haku Kinen Kouen as part of their nationwide handshake tour celebrating the release of their newest single, “Oide Shampoo“.

The event on the 19th was the first event from their nationwide
handshake event tour to help promote this single. A crowd of
approximately 2,000 fans came rushing into the venue, which was showered
in the strong rays of early summer. With the exception of members Ichiki Rena and Nakamoto Himeka
(who were absent from the event so as not to miss school), all the
members of the group were present. Out of the 31 members who were at the
event, Ito Marika and Higuchi Hina were selected through a raffle to be the MCs for the day.

After stirring up the crowd, Ito and Higuchi called the rest of the
members onto the stage, where the senbatsu members from their May 14th
single “Oide Shampoo”, which topped Oricon’s Weekly
Single Chart. The girls showed off some new choreography during their
performance, causing the audience to cheer immensely. Following a talk
by members Shiraishi Mai, Takayama Kazumi, and Nishino Nanase about the outfits and choreography for “Oide Shampoo”, the 17 under members came on stage to perform “Ookami ni Kuchibue wo“. Nakada Kana performed in place of Nakamoto. The girls also performed “House!” much to the delight of the crowd.

J-MUSIC NEWS 20120519_nogizaka1-600x398

A random lottery was held later on, where Nogizaka46 gave away signed
posters, clear folders, T-shirts, and long handshake tickets. Following
the giveaway, Ito, Higuchi, and Sakurai Reina gave the audience a choreography lesson for their song, “Nogizaka no Uta” before launching the group into a performance of the song wearing matching purple jerseys.

An hour into the event, just when fans thought the event was going to end, the group surprised member Nagashima Seira by wishing her a happy 18th birthday. Nogizaka46 brought out a cake and, along with the fans, sang a big round of “Happy Birthday To You“, causing Nagashima to start crying. “I made the huge decision inside me to join Nogizaka46 when I was 17,” she said among tears to the crowd. “But
I think that being away from my parents and being supported by all of
our fans has made me grow up a little. Now that I’ve turned 18, I’d like
to grow up even more than I have now, and aim higher and higher for
both myself and Nogizaka46, so please support me from here on out.”

When the event ended, Nogizaka46 divided into 8 teams and held a 3
hour handshake event with their fans. Their next handshake event will be
held on July 7th at Chiba’s Makuhari Messe, and again on the 14th at Osaka’s Intex Osaka event hall.

Check out some photos from the event below!

ViViD holds release event for 6,000 ecstatic fans

J-MUSIC NEWS 20120522_vivid

To commemorate the release of their fifth single “REAL“, which made its way to stores on May 16th, ViViD held release events titled “Shuumatsu no Cinderella ~Futarikiri no LOVE Chair Daisakusen~” at La Foret Museum Harajuku on May 19th and 20th.

During this event, some fans had the heart-stopping opportunity to
sit with one of the members of ViViD in a special ‘LOVE Chair”. The
group is known for holding unusual events made specifically to melt
their fans’ hearts such as patting their fans on the head or even
massaging their fans’ shoulders, so naturally, there was a lot of
anticipation surrounding this one as well.

By the second day of their “LOVE Chair” event, approximately 6,000
fans had come to see ViViD. A high-class sofa was prepared in a booth
inside the venue, and staff members dressed as butlers took fans’ purses
and other items to hold while inside the booth, giving fans the
opportunity to feel like Cinderella as they took a moment to sit with
their favorite member on the sofa and chat for a small amount of time.

Vocalist Shin said with a smile, “Normally we
don’t have the opportunity to come this close in contact with our fans,
so this time it was really fun. I’d love to do an event like this
again.”

ViViD plans to hold in-store events around the country. All members of ViViD are scheduled to participate in each event.

m-flo kicks off nationwide tour, “Reebok CLASSIC presents m-flo TOUR 2012 ‘SQUARE ONE’”

J-MUSIC NEWS 20120529_mflo

On May 26th, m-flo opened the very first day of their nationwide tour “Reebok CLASSIC presents m-flo TOUR 2012 ‘SQUARE ONE’” with a performance at Chiba’s Makuhari Messe event hall.

The performance at Makuhari Messe was the biggest of the entire tour,
amassing approximately 8,000 in the venue solely for m-flo. Superbien,
a world-class video production team, created a video for m-flo that was
projected in their amazing DJ booth, which turned the venue into a
gigantic dance floor when it appeared on stage.

For this live, m-flo brought the hot newcomers minami and Matt Cab onto the stage to perform as secret vocalists, as well as melody. and YOSHIKA during their respective “m-flo Loves” collaboration songs “miss you” and “let go“.

m-flo also heated up the crowd by bringing their cheerleader dancers on stage just like in their music video for “She’s So“, where they ripped off their uniforms and revealed cute swimsuits underneath.

On stage, VERBAL also revealed the new product from his collaboration with Reebok for the very first time. The duo then performed their Reebok theme song “RUN” as the Reebok Girls threw shoes to members of the audience.

After this performance, m-flo will go on to perform at three more stops: Zepp Fukuoka, Zepp Namba, and Zepp Nagoya. Following their nationwide tour, they will be appearing alongside the likes of 2NE1 at the “a-nation musicweek Charge Go! Weider in Jelly” event on August 3rd.

TOKYO —

Yuko Oshima, 23, on Wednesday night was voted the most popular singer
of mega-popular idol group AKB48. It was the 4th general election to
decide who should be the top member of the group.

Oshima, 23, finished in second place last year to Atsuko Maeda who earlier this year announced her graduation from the group.

Oshima finished ahead of Mayu Watanabe, 18, and Yuki Kashiwagi, 20.
She tearfully accepted the honor in front of a packed Budokan audience.

The general election for AKB48 is the largest annual event in
Japanese music and entertainment. It has traditionally been an event
where fans buy CDs (only sold in Japan) and vote on who should be the
top member. Every year, over a million votes are collected, and the
Japanese media and level of general awareness of the event are almost on
par with a real political election.

Unlike in previous years, fans from all over the world were able to
share in the excitement of the general election through Google+. By
sending their support messages to their favorite AKB48 members through
this campaign, fans from anywhere connected with AKB48 and even became
an official fan reporters at the live event in Tokyo.

J-MUSIC NEWS 20120828_nogizaka46_hashirebicycle

Idol group Nogizaka46’s 3rd single “Hashire! Bicycle” (released August 22nd) has sold 187,000 copies in its first week, topping the Oricon weekly charts for September 3rd.
The first week sales for this single have exceeded their previous single “Oide Shampoo” (released in May), which sold 156,000 in its first week. With this, the group has set a new record for themselves since making their debut in February.
For this week’s album ranking, Nogizaka46’s “official rival group” AKB48 claimed first with their latest album “1830m” (released August 15th) for the 2nd week in a row. AKB48 and their related groups have topped the single and album rankings for 12 weeks of the year. However, this is the first time the groups have topped both rankings simultaneously.
